Cranio-Sacral therapy is a gentle hands on therapy where the client remains fully clothed, lying on a treatment table or sitting in a chair. A case history is taken. The therapist will make a contact on the feet, head (cranium) tailbone (sacrum) or others areas as appropriate.
Therapists are trained to feel the subtle motion of the fluids that surround and bathe the brain and spinal cord. This motion or rhythm is known as the Cranio-sacral rhythm and the therapist uses it to identify patterns of restriction, congestion and sympathetic agitation in the body. The therapist listens via the hands which assists the body to release these particular patterns and find its way back to an easier way of functioning and an increase in vitality.
The treatment generally produces a feeling of deep relaxation and people often say that they feel their body expanding outward and stretching out lengthwise. Some people notice sensations of warmth, tingling, pulsation and vibration.
